Dagur is born on June 19th, 1972 in Oslo.  He was brought up in a suburb of Reykjavik called Árbær. The son of Eggert Gunnarsson veterinarian and Berþóra Jónsdóttir, biochemist. Married to Arna Dögg Einarsdóttir, medical doctor at Landspitali - The National University Hospital of Iceland. They have four children Ragnheidur Hulda b. May 2004, Steinar Gauti b. September 2005, Eggert b. August 2009 and Móeiður b. March 2011.
