The Sport and Leisure Department operates seven swimming pools, sport halls, the youth centre “Hitt Húsið”, a service centre, two ski slopes in Bláfjöll and Skálafell mountains, district-based ski slopes, the Reykjavík Family Park and Zoo in Laugardalur valley, summer activities for children in the sailing club at Nauthólsvík and in Reykjavik Family Park and Zoo.

Inhabitants of the city of Reykjavík can pursue a variety of fun leisure activities where a wide range of options are available for all ages. The Department of Sports and Leisure (DSL) is committed to communicate all information on such activities, whether undertaken by DSL or other city agencies. Special emphasis is placed on promoting the opportunities for children and adolescents in city districts.
In city districts DSL provides various services relating to the leisure time of the citizens. These include swimming pools, sports centres, skateboard parks, artificial grass courts and football fields. Activities less tied to the district include Hitt húsið, Ylströndin the geothermal beach, Fjölskyldu og húsdýragarðurinn the Family Park and Zoo and ski resorts.
DSL performs extensive collaboration with stakeholders in sports and youth activities, provides grants to sport clubs and strengthens the participation of children and youth in their activities with the Leisure Card.
